The Trenton Golden Hawks sent former director of hockey operations John McDonald into retirement with a bang Friday night.

Duncan McDonald Community Gardens in Trenton was sold out for John McDonald Night.’

Following a pregame ceremony, the first-place Golden Hawks defeated the arch rival Wellington Dukes 4-1.

In his time with the Golden Hawks, McDonald won an Ontario Junior Hockey League title, two Central Canada Dudley Hewitt Cup titles and was named OJHL Executive of the Year in 2016.

McDonald was the chair of the host committee for the Eastern Canada Cup All-Star Challenge in Trenton last fall.

McDonald worked with the Streetsville Derbys, Markham Waxers and Aurora Tigers before moving to Trenton and joining the Golden Hawks in 2011.

He has been inducted into the Trenton and Richmond Hill sports hall of fames.
