Cory Liu of the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Milton Menace (photo credit – Michelle Malvaso OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join the NCAA’s State University of New York at Canton Kangaroos in Canton, NY beginning with the 2023-24 season.

Liu, 20, joined the Menace from the Smiths Falls Bears this season. The defenceman from Markham had 14 assists in 53 games in the OJHL.

“Playing for Milton in the OJHL was awesome this year,” Liu told the OJHL. “I cannot thank the staff and my teammates enough for making this year memorable, as I enjoyed every second playing for Milton.”

“SUNY Canton has a first-class hockey program and I know I will be getting an excellent education, as well. The coaches and staff at SUNY Canton have been amazing and extremely helpful. They were with me every step of the way in the recruiting process. I couldn’t be happier and I am beyond excited to begin my journey playing hockey and studying at SUNY Canton.”

Milton Assistant Coach Daniel D’Ercole thinks Liu has a bright future.

“We are proud of how far Cory has come this year with the Milton Menace,” he told the OJHL. “He was an outstanding leader and key defensive pillar for our group. Cory was effective in all areas of the ice and positively contributed to our club every practice and game.

“With that being said, we are excited for the next step in his hockey journey at SUNY Canton.”

Former OJHLers on the Kangaroos roster this season included Zac Sirota (Markham, Milton), Jordyn Mughal (Georgetown, Trenton), Trystan Mughal (Georgetown, Trenton) and Noah Robinson (North York, Milton, Toronto Patriots, Aurora).

Congratulations to Cory and best of luck in the NCAA!

The OJHL, the largest Jr. A hockey league in Canada, has had more than 90 NCAA, U SPORTS, CHL and professional commitments in 2021-22 – including more than 25 NCAA Division I scholarships.
